[About the Ogasawara Islands]
The Ogasawara Islands are an oceanic group of about 30 islands of various sizes. Isolated by the ocean about 1,000 km from Tokyo, they have never been connected to the continent by land in the process of their creation, so many endemic plants, trees, insects, and animals have evolved uniquely in the Ogasawara Islands. In the deep, clear blue ocean, known as "bonin blue", you can see whales, dolphins, large migratory fish, and colorful tropical fish. The Ogasawara Islands, with such wonderful nature, were registered as Japan's fourth World Natural Heritage site in June 2011 （ in recognition of their value as an area ） where the evolution of unique creatures and the connections among them can be seen, which are not found in other areas.
